Supersock World Championship Rules
The Supersock World Championship is a multi-lap speed knitting contest based loosely on famous auto and bicycle races. We like to think of it as a hybrid mix of Tour-de-Sock and Sock Madness. You must make a log in for this website (see Registration) to be able to access the patterns of SWC2024. Sharing of your registration user info to give access to another person is against our fair play in racing concept and you will not be able to participate.
Racers are required to keep current with the SWC group on Ravelry Announcements thread and all requirements/errata in pattern threads. You must complete & submit a pair of Qualifier socks to continue to race Laps 1-4 & the Finale. Your access to the website will be blocked if you do not qualify.
At the beginning of each lap, new High Octane and Low Octane patterns are released on the website for registered racers to download.
Mods will mark the end of the lap with a double checkered flag on Ravelry, but racers may continue to post their finished socks for zero points.
Completion Process
-Create a project page, complete with all the required photos, and cast-0n number, NOT shoe size or cast on stitches.
- Fill out the Google form for FINISHERS that will be linked in the header of the thread of your pattern HO or LO for that lap.
-The link, if correctly completed supplies us with all the information.
Individual Competition
Points are awarded for all laps 1-4 and the Finale. Points for high and low octane patterns are awarded separately (see Points System below). The fastest three contestants are awarded with podium places and avatars every lap. Contestant points are accrued towards a team total.
Points are cumulative and are based on the finishing position for each lap.
The individual winner of the Supersock World Championship will be the racer who accumulates the most points throughout the competition.
In the event of a tie, the victor will be determined by average finishing position for all laps. Should a tie still exist, the winner will be determined by the number of lap victories. Should that still not break the tie, there will be a single sock knit-off.
Team Competition
Teams can be any size, but only the top 10 finishers of each team qualify for team points. In other words, only ten racers’ points will count towards final totals.
The spreadsheet keeps track of individual racers and which team will receive the Team Cup at the end of the competition.
Points System
20 points for 1st Place
18 points for 2nd Place
16 points for 3rd Place
14 points for 4th-10th Place
12 points for 11th-50th Place
10 points for 51st-100th place
5 point for finished, but not placed
1 point for finished with accepted modification(s)
1 point for warm-up completed
Prizes
A random drawing will be held from each lap’s finishers for prizes.
All prizes will be distributed at the end of the competition.
All prizes have been donated and are not secured via sponsors.
Solicitation
Do not use this group for solicitation or self-promotion. The only exception is the vendor thread (Retail Therapy).
Civility and Respect Statement
We support the guidelines used by Ravelry to assure a commitment to inclusion and acceptance.
Words, phrases, or images deemed by SWC group admin &/or moderators to express, either deliberately or unknowingly, hatred or contempt towards a group of people, based on areas such as their ethnic, cultural, religious or sexual identity, gender, socio-economic class, or with reference to physical health or mental health, are not allowed.
